Universidade do Minho. Portugal. Luís Filipe Meira Machado is Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Applications, Faculty of Sciences, University of Minho. He received the Ph.D. (2005) degree from the Department of Statistics and Operations Research, University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He has been teaching in the areas of Mathematics, Engineering and Statistics. His research interests are in Statistics (Biostatistics), having a specific interest in survival analysis and multi-state models. Other areas of interest include the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves; random double truncation phenomena in timeto- event data; the use of smooth methods in survival data (generalized additive models), etc. He has authored or co-authored more than 22 journal articles, and over 50 conference communications. He has supervised 1 doctoral thesis. He participates or has participated in several research projects, being the coordinator in one of them (project funded by FCT Portuguese Science Foundation).
